Get into the Swing of Things with This Celebration Honoring Benny Goodman
If we trace back the history of swing music, no one could ever fathom its legendary popularity and success in 1938. Indeed, January 16, 1938 was a legendary day for swing music lovers. Benny Goodman's Orchestra played out the renowned Carnegie Hall and, instantly following his band's performance, Count Basie's band came face to face with Chick Webb's band at The Savoy Ballroom.
The program starts with Kyle Smith showing an interactive discussion about that unprecedented night from 6:30-7:30 PM. Following his discussion, The Hot Tomatoes Dance Orchestra will play three sets separately dedicated to the music of Count Basie, Chick Webb and Benny Goodman's bands from 8:00-11:00 PM.
Prepare to delight in and groove all night to the swing music of 1938 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars FW Post 1. VFW Post 1 was founded in 1899. The first meeting, held at the Colorado State Capitol, was the first of many used to organize benefits and rights for veterans involved in overseas conflicts. We look forward to seeing you there!
