Indulge in an experience reminiscent of Prohibition times at License No. 1 this Thursday. On January 3rd, George Nelson and the trio bring soul, blues, and jazz to the intimate speakeasy beneath Hotel Boulderado.
George is more than a soulful master. He is an icon. With nearly 40 years of performing under his belt, he has lived, played and sung through a remarkable period of musical history.
His masterful playing and soulful renditions have broad appeal. George has opened for or performed with Ray Charles, Les McCann, George Duke, Frankie Avalon, Glen Yarbrough, Joe Russell (The Persuasions), Spyro Gyra, Billy Preston, Stan Kenton Orchestra, Hazel Miller, Gene Bass, Billy Tolles, JoJo Williams, Fred Fuller, Billy Rich (now with Taj Mahal). He has also performed for such celebrities as Johnny Mathis, Joan Van Ark, Charlton Heston, and Mariette Hartley.
Hotel Boulderado was the first luxury hotel built in Boulder. The name comes from a combination of Boulder and Colorado designed so guests would always remember where they had stayed. The hotel opened the doors in true elegance and style with a Gala Ball on New Year’s Eve in 1908. The first guests were able to check into the hotel on New Year’s Day in 1909. As a part of Boulder’s rich culture, the hotel is a City of Boulder landmark, a proud member of Historic Hotels in America and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
