Celebrate the Artistic Community at The Annual CherryArts Festival

The CherryArts Festival at the Stanley Marketplace, a sophomore effort from the folks who’ve been rolling out the time-honored Cherry Creek Arts Festival since 1991, is not a carbon copy of the parent event, and that’s just one of many reasons to check it out this weekend.

“The location really has a lot to do with it,” says festival director Tara Brickell. “There’s something about the spirit at Stanley. There are fifty independently owned businesses ready to open soon at Stanley, and that’s something we’re also trying to do at CherryArts: We want to help independent artists.” More than forty of the 100 artists featured in the fest’s second year are from Colorado, Brickell notes, a much different ratio from that of the nationally leaning mix at CCAF.

And the emphasis on local goes even further. Tonight’s ticketed Opening Night Grand Tasting will showcase Stanley restaurateurs, and Downtown Aurora Visual Arts and the Aurora Cultural District are helping to create interactive art experiences during the festival. Also, through a partnership with Aurora’s Art in Public Places program, the creation of a two-block, history-inspired mural was overseen by Denver artist Yulia Avgustinovich on Clinton Street, just south of the Stanley; the mural will be ready for a Sunday dedication with Aurora mayor Steve Hogan presiding.

Get a head start on your art-gawking at the Grand Tasting, September 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Stanley Marketplace, 2501 Dallas Street in Aurora; tickets are $60 for general admission or $75 for the early-entry VIP slot. The festival proper continues, free of charge, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, with all-ages activities, food trucks and live entertainment.

At Apex 5510 Apartments in Boulder, Colorado, we pride ourselves on informing our residents about all the upcoming events our beautiful community has to offer. Don’t hesitate to join this event on Saturday!
